Anthony Weiner has been mum about a possible run for mayor but he does have a lot to say about his family life.
The disgraced congressman opened up to People Magazine along with his wife Huma Abedin for an interview that will hit newsstands Friday.
The 47-year-old, who resigned last year after sending out lewd photos of himself to women on the internet, said his current plans are focused on the couple’s 6-month-old son Jordan.
“I’m very happy in my present life,” the Democrat told the magazine which will have several family friendly photos.
Abedin, 37, who is the deputy chief of staff for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, said her husband has worked hard to put the scandal behind him and strengthen their relationship.
“I’m proud to be married to him,” said Abedin, who added that Weiner does all of the laundry.
Before the interview was posted on People’s website Wednesday, Abedin was attacked by several Tea Party House members who accused her of being part of an Islamic conspiracy to infiltrate America.
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) came to Abdin’s defense Wednesday.
“I hope these ugly and unfortunate attacks on her can be immediately brought to an end and put behind us before any further damage is done to a woman, an American, of genuine patriotism and love of country,” he said.
Weiner has kept quiet about reports that he might throw his hat into the 2013 mayoral race.
He is listed as a mayoral candidate in the city’s campaign finance records and has more than $5 million in contributions, according to the city’s campaign finance board.
Weiner has spent more than $39,000 for his campaign in the last seven months including $40 for a recent “meeting” at Mendy’s restaurant in midtown, records show.
Fellow disgraced politician Eliot Spitzer said he doubted the public would be quick to forgive and forget the ex-congressman’s escapades.
“I mean, probably a little too short but the public will have to make that decision,” Spitzer told NY1 on Tuesday.
