Williamsburg will be taking a page out of Detroit’s economic playbook by next summer.
Mayor Michael Bloom-berg announced Monday that the Ayton Performance company, which creates engines for IndyCars, will open a new facility next year at a vacant lot on Metropolitan Avenue.
“Racing engines are a niche product and all across New York City, you see a lot of innovators with a similar business plan: meticulously designed products made by people who really care,” Ayton engineer Ethan Bregman said in a statement.
Bloomberg’s Brownfield Cleanup Program is expected to generate $734 million and 2,000 jobs, according to the mayor.
