Mayor Michael Bloomberg is continuing to shell out his own cash to push gay marriage initiatives across the nation.
He announced Monday a $500,000 grant to help fund same-sex marriage campaigns in Maine, Minnesota and Washington.
“The 14th Amendment guarantees us all equal protection under the law, and marriage equality is the next big step in America’s long march of freedom. The barriers to it are bound to fall. The question is not if but when,” he said in a statement.
Bloomberg paid $250,000 to Washington United for Marriage, $125,000 to Mainers United for Marriage and $125,000 to Minnesotans United for All Families. He aims to raise a million dollars for the three campaigns collectively by Election Day.
Earlier this month, the mayor gave $250,000 to Marylanders for Marriage Equality in support of that state’s gay marriage ballot.
Last week, he created a Super-PAC that gives funding to political candidates on both sides of the aisle throughout the country who support gun control, same-sex marriage and education reform.
