Some of the first Sandy relief money arrived yesterday through a special delivery from Albany.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo personally delivered the $114 million check to NYU’s Langone Medical Center to help it recover from the severe damage it sustained during the storm.

Doctors rushed to save patients after floodwaters knocked out the medical center’s generator, and the governor praised the staff’s courage.

“These first federal reimbursements will help NYU Langone Medical Center and its 20,000 physicians, scientists, nurses and staff deal with some of the extraordinary damage incurred by Sandy and get back to focusing on serving and caring for New Yorkers,” he said in a statement.

Aside from damaged equipment, the hospital also lost years of medical research during the storm.

Cuomo said more money will be on the way for NYU and other hospitals affected by the superstorm.

Robert Grossman, Dean and chief executive of NYU Langone Medical Center, urged Congress to keep providing support.

“New York state cannot recover alone, and that’s why we are so thankful that Gov. Cuomo is on the front line, pressing Congress to recognize that it’s time for the nation to step up to help us,” he said in a statement.
