The Brooklyn Nets debut will end a 55-year professional sports drought in the borough and rekindle a new legacy of athletics in the city.

Before the Dodgers moved to the West Coast in 1957, the borough’s most famous sports team won 10 National League Pennants, and one World Series Championship. Outside of baseball, there were other Brooklyn pro teams.

In 2001, the Brooklyn Cyclones, a minor league team for the Mets, brought the game back to the borough.

There were several American Football League teams that played in the borough during the early half of the 20th Century including the Brooklyn Horsemen and Brooklyn Tigers.
