Ivan Pereira

Ivan Pereira has been reporting on news in New York City since 2005.  He is adept at breaking news reporting as well as longer feature articles and has a strong knowledge of New York City.

Raised in the borough of Queens,  Ivan earned his Bachelor’s degree from New York University’s prestigious Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute where he learned from some of the city’s leading writers and reporters.

During his studies, Ivan used his skills as a contributing writer for several city publications including the Queens Chronicle and the New York Daily News. He was a contributor to several breaking news stories during his time at both papers including the 2006 Astoria blackout,  the Sean Bell shooting and the controversy over the Grand Theft Auto IV videogame.

Ivan joined the TimesLedger Newspaper in Queens in 2007, as the beat reporter for the Jamaica and Laurelton neighborhoods.  During his time there, he has covered several important news events not only for his beats but for other areas of the borough as well.

Ivan was one of the first reporters on the scene for the 2007 shooting of Daniel Malakov in Forest Hills and was the only reporter in the city to follow the case from its outset, to the arrest of Malakov’s ex-wife and her uncle and finally their convictions.

He was asked to talk about his expertise on the case on the Fox News program “On the Record with Greta van Susteren.” His articles on the case were honored with a second place in the “In-Depth Reporting” category at the 2008 NY Press Association’s Better Newspaper contest.

Ivan also reported extensively on the 2009 swine flu outbreak that hit the borough.  From the  initial reports from St. Francis Prep High School to the first city death of the virus,  he wrote several articles on the subject that not only informed the public on the ongoing pandemic but also looked back at its effects.
